A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to request that the legislative research commission study the issue of integrating a living will, or other advanced health care directive, with the drivers license process, similar to organ donation, with a standardized living will or other health care directive.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  The Legislative Research Commission is requested to study the feasibility of integrating, with the drivers license application process, a process, similar to the organ donor question, regarding the desire for a living will by drivers license applicants. In addition to the question of whether or not the licensee wanted to have a living will, or some other form of advanced health care directive, the Legislative Research Commission is requested to study a method of adapting a standardized version of a valid North Carolina living will, or some other advanced health care directive, into the drivers license application process, and having the contents published on the Secretary of State's Advanced Health Care Directive's Registry.

SECTION 2.  The report requested by this act shall be made to the General Assembly at least 10 days before the 2010 Regular Session of the 2009 General Assembly reconvenes.

SECTION 3.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
