A SENATE RESOLUTION relating to the appointment, nomination, and confirmation of tony copeland as secretary of the department of commerce.
Whereas, pursuant to G.S. 143B‑9(a), the Governor shall notify the President of the Senate of the name of each person to be nominated as head of a principal State department; and
Whereas, each nomination is subject to senatorial advice and consent in conformance with Section 5(8) of Article III of the North Carolina Constitution; and
Whereas, a vacancy existed in one such position prior to the convening of the 2017 General Assembly; and
Whereas, under G.S. 143B‑9(a), the Governor is authorized to make an appointment to such a vacancy pending further action by the Senate; and
Whereas, the Governor has appointed Tony Copeland to serve as Secretary of the Department of Commerce pending further action by the Senate; Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
SECTION 1. That the Senate shall hereby consider whether to confirm Tony Copeland as Secretary of the Department of Commerce.
SECTION 2. This resolution is effective upon adoption.
