A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to provide that the North carolina medical care commission shall not establish rules that prohibit the carrying of weapons aboard ambulances or ems nontransporting vehicles by duly appointed law enforcement officers or firefighters.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  G.S. 143‑508(d)(8) reads as rewritten:

"(d)      The North Carolina Medical Care Commission shall adopt rules to do all of the following:

(8)        Establish standards for vehicles and equipment used within the emergency medical services system. In establishing the standards, no rule may prohibit the carrying of weapons aboard an ambulance or EMS nontransporting vehicle by duly appointed law enforcement officers or firefighters."

SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
