A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to allow the towns of apex, cary, garner, knightdale, wake forest, and zebulon to donate retired service animals used by the police department or any other town agency to the police officer or employee who had normal custody and control of the animal.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  Section 2 of S.L. 2015‑174 reads as rewritten:

"SECTION 2.(a)  The governing body of a municipality may donate any horse, dog, or other animal used by the municipality's police department or any other municipal agency to the officer or employee who had normal custody and control of the animal during its service to the municipality when the animal is deemed no longer fit for public service.

"SECTION 2.(b)  This section applies only to the Towns of Apex, Cary, Garner, Knightdale, Wake Forest, and Zebulon and to the municipalities in Mecklenburg County."

SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
