A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to modify the selection process for members of the north carolina criminal justice education and training standards commission.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. G.S. 17C‑3(a)(2) reads as rewritten:
"(2) Police Officers. – ThreeTwo
police officials appointed by the North Carolina Police Executives Association
and two criminal justice officersAssociation; one full‑time law
enforcement officer certified by the Commission as selected by the North
Carolina Law‑Enforcement Officers' Association.Association; one
full‑time law enforcement officer certified by the Commission as selected
by the State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police; and one full‑time
law enforcement officer certified by the Commission as selected by the North
Carolina Police Benevolent Association."
SECTION 2. As enacted by Section 1 of this act, the initial term of office for the members selected by the State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police and the North Carolina Police Benevolent Association shall begin on July 1, 2015, and shall expire on June 30, 2018. Consistent with G.S. 17C‑3(b), subsequent appointees to these slots shall be appointed for a term of three years, but notwithstanding the appointment for a term of years, the member shall serve at the will of the appointing authority.
SECTION 3. This act is effective when it becomes law.
