A JOINT RESOLUTION honoring the life and memory of donald william bingham, former member of the general assembly.

Whereas, Donald William Bingham was born on February 3, 1925, in Randolph County to Thomas William Bingham and Effie Johnson Bingham; and

Whereas, Donald William Bingham served as a corporal in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945; and

Whereas, Donald William Bingham married Sarah Smith on November 27, 1949; and

Whereas, in 1953, Donald William Bingham, along with W.D. Parks, Jr., opened Bingham and Parks Lumber Company, which later became a national distributer for Olin Manufacturing; and

Whereas, Donald William Bingham served in the General Assembly as a member of the House of Representatives during the 1965 Session and as a member of the Senate during the 1971 Session; and

Whereas, Donald William Bingham served on the Davie County Board of Education, filling the unexpired term of his wife; and

Whereas, Donald William Bingham was a member of the Small Business Administration and Director of the Branch Bank and Trust Company in Mocksville; and

Whereas, Donald William Bingham was a member of several fraternal and civic organizations, including the Farmington Lodge No. 265, A.F. & A.M.; the Smith Grove Ruritan Club as Director; and the Davie County Library as Director; and

Whereas, Donald William Bingham founded and operated the Tar Heel Gun Club; and

Whereas, Donald William Bingham was a devoted member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where he spent a number of years as a member of the Board; and

Whereas, Donald William Bingham died on August 26, 2011, at the age of 86; and

Whereas, Donald William Bingham is survived by his daughters, Debbie Pullen, Betsy Blackburn, and Tommi Steidel, and his grandchildren; Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

SECTION 1.  The General Assembly honors the memory of Donald William Bingham and expresses the appreciation of this State and its citizens for the service he rendered to his community, State, and nation.

SECTION 2.  The General Assembly extends its sympathy to the family of Donald William Bingham for the loss of a beloved family member.

SECTION 3.  The Secretary of State shall transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the family of Donald William Bingham.

SECTION 4.  This resolution is effective upon ratification.
