A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to call a special election to fill a vacancy on the chatham county board of education.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  Notwithstanding Sec. 3 and Sec. 4 of S.L. 1995-80, as amended by S.L. 2005-309, and G.S. 115C-37(f), the Chatham County Board of Election shall hold a special election on November 5, 2013, to fill the vacancy for District 4 on the Chatham County Board of Education for the unexpired term. All qualified voters of Chatham County may vote in the special election. The election shall be conducted in accordance with Chapter 163 of the General Statutes with notice as provided in G.S. 163-287.

SECTION 2.  Candidates for the election to fill the vacated seat, as provided in Section 1 of this act, shall file a notice of candidacy with the Chatham County Board of Elections at any time after 12:00 noon on July 5, 2013, and before 12:00 noon on July 19, 2013. Each candidate shall pay a filing fee of five dollars ($5.00) and shall certify in writing that the candidate is a bona fide resident of District 4 and a qualified voter therein.

SECTION 3.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
