A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to appropriate funds for the high point market.
Whereas, the High Point Market is the largest home furnishings industry trade show in the world; and
Whereas, the High Point Market attracts more than 160,000 attendees annually, including many thousands of international visitors, and boosts an economic impact of $1.2 billion to the State; and
Whereas, the home furnishings industry is responsible for 65,362 jobs in the Triad; and
Whereas, the High Point Market is expanding its programs to ensure its competiveness with other regions, nationally and globally; Now, therefore,
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1.(a) There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Commerce the sum of eight hundred forty-eight thousand nine hundred twenty-five dollars ($848,925) for the 2011-2012 fiscal year and the sum of eight hundred forty-eight thousand nine hundred twenty-five dollars ($848,925) for the 2012-2013 fiscal year to be allocated to the High Point Market Authority to provide support for the High Point Market.
SECTION 1.(b) There is appropriated from the Highway Fund to the Department of Transportation the sum of one million two hundred thousand dollars ($1,200,000) for the 2011-2012 fiscal year and the sum of one million two hundred thousand dollars ($1,200,000) for the 2012-2013 fiscal year to be allocated to the High Point Market Authority for transportation services associated with the High Point Market.
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2011.
