A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT directing the state board of education to develop or identify academically rigorous honors-level courses in health and physical education that can be offered at the high school level.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  Chapter 115C of the General Statutes is amended by adding a new section to read:

"§ 115C-81.4. Honors-level courses in health and physical education.

The State Board of Education shall develop or identify academically rigorous honors-level courses in health and physical education that can be offered at the high school level. These honors-level courses shall be more challenging than standard-level courses, provide multiple opportunities for students to take greater responsibility for their learning, and require higher quality work from the students than standard courses."

SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
