A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to establish additional enforcement positions for the department of labor's wage and hour DIVISION and occupational safety and health division, and to appropriate funds for those positions IN ORDER TO IMPROVE WORKER PROTECTIONS.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, the sum of three hundred twenty-five thousand dollars ($325,000) for fiscal year 2009-2010 and the sum of three hundred twenty-five thousand dollars ($325,000) for fiscal year 2010-2011 to be used to establish five inspector positions for the Division in order to enforce the Wage and Hour Act, particularly with respect to youth employment, pursuant to Article 2A of Chapter 95 of the General Statutes.

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Division, the sum of three hundred twenty-five thousand dollars ($325,000) for fiscal year 2009-2010 and the sum of three hundred twenty-five thousand dollars ($325,000) for fiscal year 2010-2011 to be used to establish five inspector positions for the Division in order to enforce the Occupational Safety and Health Act, particularly with respect to youth employment, pursuant to Article 16 of Chapter 95 of the General Statutes.

SECTION 3.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2009.
