A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT authorizing the town of clayton to use electronic means to provide public notice for certain public hearings.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  The Charter of the Town of Clayton, being Chapter 983 of the 1987 Session Laws, is amended by adding a new Article to read as follows:

"Article VI. MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS.

"Sec. 6.1. Electronic Notice of Hearings. The Council may adopt ordinances providing that notice of public hearings may be given through electronic means including, but not limited to, the Town's Internet site. Ordinances adopted pursuant to this section shall not supersede any State law that requires notice by mail to certain classes of people or the posting of signs on certain property and shall not alter the publication schedule for any public notice."

SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
