A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT RELATING TO THE REINSTATEMENT OF UNUSED SICK LEAVE FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL EMPLOYEES.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  G.S. 115C-336 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:

"(d)      The State Board of Education shall adopt rules relating to the reinstatement of unused sick leave when an employee returns to employment. Under these rules, the maximum period of separation after which unused sick leave is reinstated shall be three calendar months longer for school personnel employed on a 10-month basis than for school personnel employed on a 12-month basis."

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2009.
