A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to appropriate funds for the north carolina biotechnology center to continue and expand the life sciences industry and related employment opportunities in north carolina.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the North Carolina Biotechnology Center the sum of seven million dollars ($7,000,000) in recurring funds for the 2010-2011 fiscal year to support the Center's Agricultural Biotechnology Initiative, to support university based scientific research focused on Statewide job creation, to expand the Center's loan program to attract and support small biotechnology companies, and to fund a special one million dollar ($1,000,000) account in the One North Carolina Fund to provide grants to support the expansion and attraction of small and medium biotechnology companies and to provide related employment opportunities.

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2010.
