A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT MARRIAGES CONTRACTED OUTSIDE OF THIS STATE BETWEEN PERSONS OF THE SAME GENDER ARE NOT VALID.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

Section 1.  Chapter 51 of the General Statutes is amended by adding the following new section to read:

"§ 51-1.2.  Marriages between persons of the same gender not valid.

Marriages contracted or performed outside of North Carolina between individuals of the same gender are not valid in North Carolina."

Sec. 2.  This act is effective upon ratification.
