Continuation Reviews - Summary of Results
State agencies have produced 27 continuation review reports since the program was initiated in 2007. The list below shows the status of the reviewed programs in the fiscal year following their submitted reports. Funding refers to General Fund appropriations except for Department of Transportation (DOT) programs (Highway Fund).
Funding Restored and Increased
- Dental Supplies – Fluoride Mouth Rinse Program (Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS))
- Criminal Justice Partnership Program (Correction)
- Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy (Public Instruction) – program funding was shifted from the Department of Crime Control and Public Safety
- Juvenile Crime Prevention Councils (Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (DJJDP))

- Conservation Education Division (Wildlife Resources Commission)

- Division of Information Resource Management (HHS)
Funding Unchanged
- Parking Office (Department of Administration) – 2 reports – No changes were made to the funding for this fully receipt-supported program
Funding Partially Restored
- BRIDGE Program (DENR) – Program funding reduced 5%
- Prisoner Education (NCCCS) – Program funding reduced 33%; funding not restored for prison full-time equivalent (FTE) students in federal prisons, local jails, or programs not related to job skills or basic skills education
- Drivers Education (DOT) – Program funding reduced 4%
- Indigent Defense – Sentencing Services Program (Judicial) – Program funding reduced 5% [This program was later eliminated in the FY 2011-12 budget.]
- Center for Public Television/UNC-TV (UNC) – Program funding reduced by 7.1%. Another 7.1% of program funding was restored on a nonrecurring basis for FY 2012-13.
Funding Eliminated
- The Center for Nursing (University of North Carolina)
- The Office of Policy and Planning (DHHS)
- Safety Education Program (Industrial Commission) – Agency fees were increased to fund the program
- Forest Development Program (DENR) – Program is now 100% receipt supported from the primary forest product assessment
- Purchase of Medical Care Services (DHHS) – Funding was eliminated for four of the five services reviewed (cancer, cystic fibrosis, kidney disease, and epilepsy)
