HOUSE BILL 447

AN ACT to extend the exemption from statutory copy costs to prisoner legal services and other attorneys working under contract with the office of indigent defense services.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  G.S. 7A-308(b1) reads as rewritten:

"(b1)    The fees set forth in subdivision (12) of subsection (a) of this section are not chargeable when copies are requested by an attorney who has been appointed or who is under contract with the Office of Indigent Defense Services to represent an indigent person at State expense, if the request is made in connection with the appointed case or the contract and during the duration of the appointment. appointment or the contract."

SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
