HOUSE BILL 52
AN ACT TO CHANGE THE FILING PERIOD FOR THE HAYWOOD COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. The last three sentences of Section 4 of Chapter 126, Session Laws of 1963, as amended by Chapter 22, Session Laws of 1977, and as rewritten by Chapter 89 of the 1979 Session Laws, read as rewritten:
"All candidates for membership of the consolidated school
system for the various districts shall file a notice of such candidacy no
earlier than the first Monday in July (except the next business day if the
first Monday in July is July 4), and no later than 12:00 noon on the third
Friday in August July preceding the general election and each
candidate shall pay a filing fee of ten dollars ($10.00) and shall certify in
writing the election district for which he is filing and that he is a bona fide
resident and qualified voter thereof. The election of members for the
consolidated school system shall be held, conducted and supervised by the
Haywood County Board of Elections and, except as otherwise provided herein,
such election shall be held in accordance with the laws and regulations for the
election of county officers. Absentee ballots shall be permitted in the
election."
SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law.
