HOUSE BILL 637

 

AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT MEMBERS OF THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION SHALL TAKE OFFICE AT THE FIRST REGULAR MEETING IN JULY IN THE YEAR OF THEIR ELECTION.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  Section 1 of Chapter 852, Session Laws of 1973 reads as rewritten:

"Section 1.  The Sanford-Lee Lee County Board of Education shall consist of seven members, to be elected by the voters of the county on a nonpartisan basis as herein provided, who shall serve for a term of four years.  The term of office of each member shall begin on the first Monday in December, next succeeding at the first regular meeting in July in the year of his election, and each member shall serve until a successor has been elected and qualified."

Sec. 2.  This act shall become effective January 1, 1990, and the terms of members which would have expired in December are accordingly reduced.
