AN ACT TO ALLOW THE BLADEN COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS TO ALTER THE MANNER OF THEIR ELECTION.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  The Bladen County Board of Commissioners may alter the structure of that board as provided under G.S. 153A-58 and G.S. 153A-59 by adopting a resolution before January 1, 1988, which complies with the provisions of G.S. 153A-60(1) through G.S. 153A-60(3).

Sec. 2.  Any modification adopted under Section 1 of this act may not be used for any election held after January 1, 1991, unless it is either:

(1)       ratified by act of the General Assembly which is ratified on or before April 15, 1991; or

(2)       approved by referendum conducted on or before December 31, 1990, in accordance with G.S. 153A-60(4), G.S. 153A-61, G.S. 153A-62, G.S. 153A-63, and G.S. 153A-64.

Sec. 3.  Before adopting any resolution under Section 1 of this act, the Bladen County Board of Commissioners shall hold a public hearing on that resolution, and shall publish notice of the hearing at least ten days before it is held.

Sec. 4.  If a resolution is adopted under Section 1 of this act, a certified true copy of it shall be filed with the Secretary of State, the Supreme Court Library, and with the Legislative Library.

Sec. 5.  This act is effective upon ratification.
