AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 48 TO PROVIDE THAT AN ADOPTIONS ORDER ENTERED IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY MAY BE ACCEPTED IN LIEU OF THE CONSENT OF THE NATURAL PARENT(S) OR GUARDIAN OF THE PERSON OF THE CHILD TO A READOPTION OF THE SAME CHILD BY THE SAME PETITIONERS UNDER THE LAWS OF NORTH CAROLINA.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  Chapter 48 of the General Statutes is hereby amended by adding the following section immediately following G.S. 48-9.1, to be numbered G.S. 48-9.2, and to read as follows:

"§ 48-9.2.  Foreign order of adoption in lieu of consent. Where a child has been previously adopted in a foreign country by petitioners seeking to readopt the child under the laws of North Carolina, the adoption order entered in the foreign country may be accepted in lieu of the consent of the natural parent or parents or the guardian of the person of the child to said readoption."

Sec. 2.  This act shall become effective upon ratification.
