AN ACT TO AMEND GENERAL STATUTES SECTION 152-1 SO AS TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF CLEVELAND COUNTY TO APPOINT AN ASSISTANT CORONER.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. G. S. 152-1 is hereby amended by adding a new paragraph at the end thereof to read as follows:

"The Board of County Commissioners of Cleveland County is hereby authorized, in its discretion, to appoint some fit and suitable person to act as assistant coroner for Cleveland County. The person so appointed shall hold office at the pleasure of the board of county commissioners and shall take and subscribe to the oaths prescribed for public officers. He shall also execute an undertaking conditioned upon the faithful discharge of the duties of his office with good and sufficient surety in the penal sum of two thousand dollars ($2,000.00) payable to the State of North Carolina and approved by the board of county commissioners. The assistant coroner so appointed shall be vested with all the powers and duties conferred upon the regular coroner with respect to holding inquests over deceased bodies and shall be subject to the penalties and liabilities imposed on the coroner. He shall serve in the absence of the Coroner of Cleveland County and as necessary at such times as is required by the board of county commissioners and shall receive such compensation for his services as the board of county commissioners shall determine."

Sec. 2. This Act shall apply only to Cleveland County.

Sec. 3. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 4. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
