AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 445-SESSION LAWS OF NORTH CAROLINA 1945, AS AMENDED BY CHAPTER 865-SESSION LAWS OF NORTH CAROLINA 1953 AND CHAPTER 827-SESSION LAWS OF NORTH CAROLINA 1957 TO PERMIT UNION COUNTY TO PROVIDE RETIREMENT BENEFITS TO EMPLOYEES THROUGH THE NORTH CAROLINA LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. The Board of County Commissioners of Union County is hereby authorized to terminate the Retirement System of Union County, North Carolina, such termination to be effective as of June 30, 1967, and to provide for retirement benefits to employees in positions theretofore covered thereunder, by and through participation of Union County as a participating employer in the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System. Such participation shall be subject to written agreement between such Board of County Commissioners and the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System, specifying such terms and conditions as such Board of Trustees may deem necessary, and shall be effective as of July 1, 1967. Such participation shall be with respect to persons now or hereafter employed in positions which have been covered under the Retirement System of Union County of North Carolina, or persons entitled as of June 30, 1967 to retirement benefits by reason of previous retirement thereunder.

Sec. 2. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3. This Act shall become effective upon ratification.
