AN ACT TO AMEND THE CHARTER OF THE TOWN OF LOWELL IN GASTON COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA, SO AS TO PERMIT THE GOVERNING BODY TO ESTABLISH A WARD SYSTEM FOR THE ELECTION OF SIX MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. Chapter 283 of the Session Laws of 1955 is amended by adding immediately after the first sentence of Section 4 the following:

"The governing body of the Town of Lowell may by ordinance duly adopted provide that the governing body of the town shall consist of six members elected by wards which shall as nearly as possible be numerically equal in population and have fixed, known, and visible boundaries."

Sec. 2. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
