AN ACT TO AMEND G.S. 97-31 OF THE WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION ACT RELATING TO BODILY DISFIGUREMENT AND LOSS OF USE OR INJURY TO PARTS OF THE BODY AND RATE OF COMPENSATION TO BE AWARDED THEREFOR.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  G.S. 97-31, as the same appears in Replacement Volume 2C of the General Statutes, is hereby amended by striking out subsection (22) in its entirety and substituting in lieu thereof the following:

"(22)    In case of serious bodily disfigurement for which no compensation is payable under any other subsection of this Section, but excluding the disfigurement resulting from permanent loss or permanent partial loss of use of any member of the body for which compensation is fixed in the schedule contained in this Section, the Industrial Commission may award proper and equitable compensation not to exceed three thousand five hundred dollars ($3,500.00)."

Sec. 2.  G.S. 97-31, as the same appears in Replacement Volume 2C of the General Statutes, is further amended by adding a new subsection immediately following subsection (23) to be designated as subsection (24), and to read as follows:

"(24)    In case of the loss of or permanent injury to any important external or internal organ or part of the body for which no compensation is payable under any other subsection of this Section, the Industrial Commission may award proper and equitable compensation not to exceed three thousand five hundred dollars ($3,500.00)."

Sec. 3.  All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 4.  This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after July 1, 1963.
