AN ACT TO PERMIT UNIFORMED FIREMEN TO DIRECT TRAFFIC AND ENFORCE MOTOR VEHICLE LAWS AND ORDINANCES AT THE SCENE OF FIRES.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  Chapter 15 of the General Statutes is hereby amended by adding thereto a new Section to be designated G.S. 15‑45.1 and to read as follows:

"§ 15‑45.1.  Uniformed firemen may direct traffic and enforce motor vehicle laws and ordinances at fires. In addition to other law enforcement officers, uniformed regular and volunteer firemen may direct traffic and enforce traffic laws and ordinances at the scene of fires in connection with their duties as firemen. Except as herein provided firemen shall not be considered law enforcement officers.

Sec. 2.  All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3.  This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
