HOUSE BILL 872

 

 

AN ACT TO AMEND THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF RALEIGH, RELATING TO THE FIRST MEETING OF A NEWLY ELECTED CITY COUNCIL.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. The second sentence of Section 10 of Chapter 1184, Session Laws of North Carolina, 1949, is hereby amended to read as follows:

"The City Council elected as hereinafter provided shall meet at ten o'clock in the forenoon on the first day of July following their election, or in the event that the first day of July shall fall on Saturday or Sunday then on the Monday following, and the members of the City Council whose terms of office then begin, shall severally make oath before the City Clerk, a Justice of the Peace, the Mayor of the City of Raleigh, or any Judge of the Superior Court of North Carolina or any Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina, to perform faithfully the duties of their respective offices."

Sec. 2. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.

Sec. 3. This Act shall become effective upon its ratification.
